Save Receipts, Tags and Product Packaging

Save all receipts, tags and product packaging for items you have purchased. You never know how you will really like the items once you have them home.

Do you ever buy clothing and when you go to put it on, you're not really comfortable in it or how it looks? I know, it goes back into your closet. Months later you try it on again and still don't really care for how it looks or fits. Guess what, if you saved the receipts and tags, you could take it back to the store and not waste the money on something you'll probably never wear.

Do you ever buy electronics or household items and find that you are not really satisfied with how they work? It doesn't matter if you have used most things or not, you can still return them if you have remembered to save your receipts. Always check for the stores return policies and adhere to them, most times if you have the receipt the merchant won't hassle you. FYI, avoid stores that charge you a restocking fee:
  • Wal Mart does not....
  • Fry's Electronics does not....
  • Costco does not....
This is another reason why I love buying everything with my credit card, not only is it more convenient but if there is a problem with the merchant giving you a refund, you can always refuse the charge on your credit card bill. There is a special rule for credit card purchases: If you have a problem with the quality of goods or services you purchased with a credit card and you have tried in good faith to correct the problem with the merchant, you may not have to pay the amount due on the goods or services. You have this protection only when the purchase price was more than $50.00 and the purchase was made in your home state or within 100 miles of your mailing address and you have not paid the balance of the disputed charge.

Many times we all buy something at the impulse of the moment saying, oh I like or need that and when you get it home somehow it doesn't seem all that important anymore. Well re-evaluate your purchases and with receipts and tags saved, you will now be able to return it to the merchant.
